Again I apologize for not updating every night, our days are jam packed and its hard to post every evening.
I am still going to TRY to post in the evening but it might only be possible for me to post every 2-3 days, but keep checking!
Day 6 Wednesday January 9th 2013
On day six Tee decided to be a complete jerk, unfortunately he decided to revert back to old habits and was SUPER fussy. After trying to get him to cooperate for a good 15 minutes Lendon had me hop off and one of the more experienced girls got on him and schooled him for a little bit so that I could see from the ground what was happening. After I got back on he was a bit more cooperative so we ended it on a good note with the hope that we would never EVER have to deal with that crap again. . . . .
Our lecture was given by Stacey Brown about our core muscles and how we should use them. She also gave us some stretches and exercises she called "barn yoga" which we will be doing as a group on a regular basis.
Day 7 Thursday January 10th 2013
Thursday was the day of private lessons and braiding horses like we would for showing!
I switched Tee's bit to something that is milder and copper and he seemed to like it, we also used a single draw rein (threw the nose band for all you people that are freaking out right now) just to remind him that throwing his head up and being a jerk is not a good option and that going round is comfy.
At 4:30 we had a discussion with the owner of Hampton Green Farm, Kim Boyer. She told us her experience about being an owner of a horse that was in the Olympics (Grandioso III representing Spain).
Day 8 Friday January 11th 2013
Friday are our hack days! I decided not to hack Tee because I knew it would do more harm than good for his mental relaxation.
At 7:30am we drove to Catherine Haddad's farm in the beautiful White Fences. She fed us a wonderful breakfast and then showed us her training program from just started 3 year olds to her developing Grand Prix horse Hotmail. Her training style is very unique and mesmerizing, she focuses on taking a horse with just average movement but super temperaments and making them superstars which is what I hope to do with Tee or other horses someday.
Day 9 Saturday 12th 2013
I am happy to report that we had small break throughs today!
We worked on keeping all 3 gaits round, simple and relaxed with much success! The only thing we had a lot of trouble with was the trot to canter transition, which he has always had a hard time with but Lendon said that for horses that like to come above the bit the trot-canter transition is kind of like the "last frontier" meaning its going to be difficult for awhile but we will work through it. :-)
I asked her whether or not she thought getting Tee and myself to Second level before the program finished was a realistic goal and she said that she had no doubt we would have all the movements by the end of the program but they might not be show ring quality, but that is good enough for me at this point! She also commented on his work ethic and how she thinks he'll progress quickly after we get good solid gaits!!
Our lecture today was presented by Dr(s). Kathy Kelly and Marg Watson about learning styles and how we all learn differently. We took a couple quizzes to find out what our dominate learning stye is, either Auditory, Kinesthetic or Visual. I am most defiantly a DOMINATE Visual learner. They gave us handouts about the learning styles that tells a bit about each one, what our difficulties might be, what our learning strengths are and strategies to help us individually. They also gave us nifty notebooks to record what we feel, hear and see so that we can become strong in the learning areas we are weakest in.
Thanks all for now folks!
Thanks for reading!
